Date April 13, 2006
For Immediate Release

Severn Trent Laboratories, Inc. (STL) assisted the National Council of Teachers in English (NCTE) by transporting books to New Orleans, LA in an effort to rebuild school libraries following the loss of educational materials in Hurricane Katrina.

A book drive for Gulf Coast communities was held in conjunction with NCTE’s 2005 Annual Convention, November 17-22, 2005, in Pittsburgh, PA. Textbooks, library materials, novels, books on tape, and other classroom materials were donated to NCTE, however the New Orleans facilities were unable to receive, store, or distribute the books at the time.

STL , along with FirstEnergy and Seton-LaSalle Catholic High School of Pittsburgh, PA, helped to arrange delivery of the educational materials to Southern University at New Orleans where they could be stored and distributed. The books are being used to rebuild libraries of New Orleans educational facilities, including Southern University at New Orleans, schools within St. Bernard Parish, and the Sophie B. Wright Charter School .
