TestAmerica Focuses on Environmental Challenges in Guam

PRESS RELEASE

October 17, 2007
For Immediate Release

Mike Dryden of TestAmerica met recently with Governor Felix Camacho of Guam to discuss environmental and infrastructure challenges facing the island territory. Tom Ushijima, former Director of the USACE Pacific Ocean Division, was also present. (Photo L-R: Dryden, Camacho, and Ushijima).

In their meeting, the Governor described his island’s role in the US Department of Defense Global Repositioning Strategy. Moving forward, Guam plans to dramatically expand its military installations to accommodate an anticipated increase of 25,000 military personnel. In addition, Guam will develop new schools, drinking water programs, advanced transportation systems and waste and power facilities. Senator Ben Pangelinan of Guam expects that that the island population will increase by 35,000 in just five years.

The combination of massive military expansion, continued development of Guam’s robust tourist industry, and a strong commitment from the Governor to strengthen environmental management has created substantial opportunity for companies that embody environmental leadership. Guam’s commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in their recent receipt of multiple Brownfield’s grants from the US EPA with funding in excess of $1.0M, and in the Governor’s environmental Vision for Progress.

During his visit with the Governor, Mr. Dryden described TestAmerica’s ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive analytical testing support for the island. TestAmerica has been pleased to receive over $1.5M in new contract opportunities for projects in Guam in just the past 6 months, including projects requiring on-site testing services.
