DRILLING Division

TestAmerica Drilling, one of the TestAmerica family of companies, is an environmental and geotechnical drilling company servicing the western United States. Since 1986, we have revolutionized the environmental drilling business through such innovations as the decontamination trailer and limited access drill rig.
With our late-model equipment and experienced drillers we provide safe and proficient drilling services at competitive prices. All TestAmerica Drilling field crews receive extensive classroom and hands on training on drilling in hazardous environments. Our in-depth Health & Safety Program ensures that your projects will be completed without risk to workers or the public.
HOLLOW STEM AUGER DRILLING
Hollow stem auger drilling is commonly used to penetrate unconsolidated formations, including alluvial deposits, sands, silts and clays. TestAmerica Drilling has a complete line of full-size and limited access auger rigs, including CME models 95, 85 and 75HT. Depending upon the lithology, we can drill to a depth of 400 feet and set well casing up to 8 inches in diameter.
AIR ROTARY CASING HAMMER
This drilling technology employs a pneumatically driven hammer mounted in the drill rig mast to drive temporary steel casing through varied formations including gravel, boulders, sands and clays. The casing maintains the integrity of the bore hole and prevents circulation losses into the formation. It also protects against cross contamination by creating a seal between aquifers. Drilling and casing advance are independently controlled to deal with complex lithologies.
DOWN-HOLE CASING ADVANCE
This specialized form of drilling enables quick penetration through difficult formations. An eccentric bit on the down-hole air hammer enlarges the bore hole as it drills. The casing is advanced by percussion transmitted to the casing shoe by the hammer. This technology has also been adapted for use with hollow stem auger rigs which can eliminate the need to mobilize a larger, more costly rig to the site.
LIMITED ACCESS DRILL RIG
Access constraints, weight restrictions and height limitations can complicate site investigation work and increase drilling costs. Our limited access drill rigs have clearances as low as 12 feet in height and 78 inches in width. The rigs are propane powered and rubber-tracked for use indoors. They can produce up to 9,200 ft.-lbs. of rotary torque. These rigs weigh substantially less than conventional rigs and can be easily hoisted into areas where size and weight are a problem.CONE PENETROMETER TESTING (CPT)
One way to collect accurate, real-time geological data without any drill cuttings is CPT. A steel rod with a specially designed tip/sleeve is pushed into the ground hydraulically. As the rod is advanced, the tip measures soil responses in the form of resistance, friction, potential pore pressure and electrical resistivity. This information is then modeled on computer to provide a precise subsurface representation. Soil/groundwater and vapor samples can also be retrieved via special sampling tips. With CPT, we can reduce initial site investigation costs by eliminating cuttings disposal and avoiding unnecessary well construction.
WELL DEVELOPMENT
Proper well performance depends upon good well development. By agitating the water column inside the casing, unwanted materials are flushed from the bore wall and filter pack. West Hazmat uses the Smeal 5T development rig for both well development and pump setting. With this rig we can develop wells up to 18 inches in diameter down to 1,000 feet in depth. Submersible pump installation and removal is also available.
West Hazmat drill rigs are accompanied by a material support truck and self-contained decontamination trailer. Through our effective planning, we arrive at the jobsite as scheduled with all of the materials required to complete the work. Our equipment is well maintained to ensure reliable operation and avoid costly down time.
All West Hazmat field personnel are trained and medically monitored for hazardous waste site operations in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120. We also have a comprehensive Workplace Injury and Illness Prevention Program that is specially designed for the drilling industry. We are committed to providing our customers with the quality, safety and competitive pricing they demand and deserve. REPRESENTATIVE EQUIPMENT LIST:
