Sampling/Remediation Products

QED was founded in the 1970s in Ann Arbor, Michigan by several professors from the University of Michigan, specializing in water quality engineering for natural and treated waters. This expertise in water contaminant chemistry and the processes that affect it gave QED a special awareness of the challenges of ground water quality sampling, and led in 1982 to QED’s first product - Well Wizard® dedicated bladder pump systems. The Well Wizard product line exemplified the design principles that have guided QED to this day: innovative, industry-leading products that deliver improved performance, reduce user costs, and are easier to use and maintain. The Well Wizard line has since become the standard worldwide for dedicated sampling pumps. Later innovations pioneered by QED in the sampling field include:

  • QuickFilter disposable filter cartridges, for higher quality and easier field filtering
  • MicroPurge low-flow ground water sampling automated controls for flow, level and purge stabilization
  • Sample Pro portable MicroPurge pumps with quick change, disposable bladders for low-flow sampling
  • Teflon-lined, bonded tubing sets for economy and sample purity

Customer needs combined with QED’s pneumatic pump technology, led to a second important product group: air-powered pumps for remediation and landfill pumping. Air-powered pumps offer important advantages in the pumping of difficult fluids, including those with high solids levels, solvents, elevated temperatures and corrosive conditions. The first product in this series was the Pulse Pump line of externally controlled air displacement pumps launched in 1984, joined later by Solo and HammerHead automatic pumps. Later, Clean Environment Equipment of Oakland, California merged with QED, adding the highly regarded AutoPump® automatic pumps to the QED lineup. Today the AutoPump line, including the latest HammerHead® Pro models, is easily the worldwide leader and first choice in air-powered pumps for ground water remediation sites and landfill leachate and condensate control. Our 80-page AutoPump catalog reflects the depth and breadth of this product line.

The special needs of remediation sites again combined with QED’s pump expertise to create a range of unique technologies for removing floating and sinking non-aqueous layers (LNAPLs and DNAPLs) of hydrocarbons and solvents. Some of these brands include Genie® pumps and SOS and SPG skimmers and Ferret® downwell separators. These systems have been successfully applied at thousands of sites worldwide, and offer the customer the remediation industry’s broadest set of solutions to fit site needs.

As a complement to QED’s remediation pumping products, the EZ-Tray and EZ-Stacker lines of air strippers were developed for the removal of volatile organic compounds from contaminated ground water. The EZ-Tray stripper allows one-person, front door slide removal of the trays for easier cleaning, including on large, high flow models, and the EZ-Stacker provides a convenient, leak-proof assembly in an economical, molded plastic air stripper. These air strippers continue the QED tradition of innovation, superior performance, reduced costs of operation and ease of use.
