Webinar on Explosives Methodologies

Event Announcement

Tuesday, Aug 2, 2016

TestAmerica, the leader in environmental testing, is pleased to announce the next webinar in its Ask the Expert series. The webinar, entitled Explosives by HPLC, LC/MS and LC/MS/MS, will be presented on Tuesday, August 2 at 1:30 EDT by Corporate Technical Director Karla Buechler.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) promulgated method 8330 in calendar year 1994 for the determination of “Nitroaromatics and Nitramines by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).” That same year, method 8321 was published by US EPA for the analysis of “Solvent-Extractable Nonvolatile Compounds by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography/Thermospray/Mass Spectrometry (HPLC/TS/MS).” Both methods were revised in 2007 by US EPA, and are considered to be the gold standard for explosives testing in environmental samples. TestAmerica offers both methods as well as LC/MS/MS capabilities for ultra-trace level detection of explosive related compounds.

The webinar will discuss the strengths and challenges of these complex methods, and provide a brief overview of alternative technologies currently available. Further, the webinar will provide a summary of the historical uses and handling of explosives in the United States, as well as insights into the chemical structures of the primary explosive compounds.

Ms. Buechler, Technical Director for TestAmerica, has more than 30 years’ experience in the environmental testing industry. She has held positions in Laboratory Management, Project Management and has many years of hands-on experience with chromatography systems including Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry and High Resolution Mass Spectrometry.

TestAmerica’s Ask the Expert program provides unmatched access to a nationally recognized panel of more than 30 experts in the environmental field.
