Stormwater Monitoring

Rain Is In The Forecast!

Stormwater runoff is generated from rain and snowmelt that flows over land, or surfaces such as paved roads, and does not soak into the ground. The runoff potentially encounters trash, chemicals, oils, and dirt that can be transported to surface waters.  Municipalities, construction companies, industries and others use stormwater controls to filter out pollutants and/or prevent pollution by controlling it at its source.

The NPDES stormwater program regulates discharges from municipal storm sewer systems, construction activities and industrial activities. Operators of these sources may be required to obtain a NPDES permit before they can discharge stormwater.  Enforcement of EPA's stormwater programs is typically managed at the state level.

Laboratory data from stormwater sampling events assist you in determining how well control measures are working and if your stormwater control approach is meeting applicable discharge requirements or effluent limits.

TestAmerica Is Ready to Help

TestAmerica’s approach to stormwater monitoring includes services such as sampling support, courier services, laboratory analyses and customized data delivery options to meet your individualized and regulatory needs. TestAmerica has ample laboratory capacity to handle the large numbers of samples generated during rain events.  Personnel are on standby to provide sampling containers, log-in samples and analyze and report short holding time tests.

Sampling Support

TestAmerica provides coolers, packing material, certified pre-cleaned bottles with applicable preservatives, and chains of custody.  Our bottle kits reduce the potential for error in the field by providing the correct containers with the applicable preservatives and paperwork based upon the analyses outlined in the permit.  To learn more about our bottle kits and courier service, please click here.

Laboratory Analysis

Samples received at the laboratory are logged into our industry leading Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) based on the information provided on the Chain of Custody.  Sample receipt confirmation forms detailing sample collection information and requested analyses are sent to client contacts after receipt to reduce error potential and ensure proactive communication with clients.

Reports and Data Delivery

TestAmerica’s network of laboratories is linked by a single LIMS, allowing TestAmerica to provide clients with one easy to read report and electronic data deliverable (EDD), regardless of where samples are analyzed within our network.  Clients have the option to receive their data in one of more than 2,500 formats, as well as via our online data portal, TotalAccess®.  TotalAccess® also allows clients to compare laboratory data to regulatory limits.  Please visit our Report Formats, Electronic Data Deliverables and TotalAccess® pages to learn more.
