About this webinar:

U.S. EPA Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery initiated the review and validation of four new leaching tests, referred to as the LEAF (Leaching Environmental Assessment Framework) methods, for inclusion into the U.S. EPA’s SW-846 Methods.  These LEAF methods represent a considerable shift in leaching assessment methodology from the current approaches which are typically based on single-point pH tests.  These four methods represent the broad range of conditions that can occur in the environment and can take into account the influence of pH, the influence of liquid to solids ratio, or the influence of mass transfer rates.

These LEAF leaching methods  were developed to be part of a tiered assessment methodology that is a more robust, yet flexible, evaluation approach for estimating environmental release, particularly in applications where current regulatory tests are not required including beneficial use determinations,  treatability evaluations, and other applications.

This presentation will focus on the environmental chemistry aspects of all four leaching methods, which includes batch, column and tank testing, including some optional modification to addressing one method for the generation of leachate for subsequent organics analysis.      

The presenter is a Technical Director and has been responsible for the commercialization of these methods online at TestAmerica. He has greater than 25 years’ experience in the environmental laboratory field.
