Total PCB and Congener Analysis - Method Selection and Data Utilization

Tuesday, July 19, 2016 - 1:30 P.M. EDT

About this webinar:

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are one of the most frequently determined environmental parameters, yet considerable confusion may still exist regarding appropriate utilization of the available analytical methodology.  Historical methods using GC/ECD instrumentation (8082) have generally determined PCBs as Aroclors, while methods using GC/MS or HRGC/HRMS instrumentation (1668) are capable of selective determination of PCB Homologues and comprehensive determination of PCB Congeners

This presentation will compare and contrast the various analytical methods used for determination of PCBs, and review consequential issues associated with method selection, data interpretation and utilization, and regulatory oversight. Topics will include items that affect end data quality, including the potential for positive or negative bias in reported results.  Additionally, the impact of artifacts and ambient background levels on site collecting and laboratory procedures will be reviewed in the context of ultra-trace levels of detection.

Topics the presentation will cover include:

  • Summary of analytical methods- what do they actually measure?
  • Strengths and weaknesses of each method- what is the appropriate application?
  • Data utilization, interpretation, and frequently asked questions

Who should attend?

  • Commercial and Industrial companies with potential PCB concerns
  • Consulting and Engineering firms that assist in investigation and remediation of PCB-impacted sites and facilities
  • Federal, State and Municipal entities that approve and oversee efforts to limit PCB exposure

A question and answer session will immediately follow the presentation. At the conclusion of each webinar, you will be asked for your feedback and opinions for future webinar topics to be developed by TestAmerica.
