Calibration in Environmental Chemistry: Problems, Solutions, Changes and Wishes

Tuesday, October 1 - 1:30 P.M. EDT

About This Webinar:

Calibration, the process for effectively translating a signal into an amount or concentration, is perhaps the most fundamental aspect of any analytical method. Without good calibration practices, reliable data is impossible.

Following recognition of problems with the commonly used correlation coefficient and coefficient of determination as measures of the quality of a calibration, a collaborative effort resulted in addition of Relative Standard Error (RSE) as an option for assessing calibration quality in both 40CFR Part 136 and SW-846 methods. RSE and Relative Error (RE) have also been added to the 2016 TNI standards. This presentation will examine whether the changes to date are sufficient to ensure reliable calibration, or whether more is needed.

Topics the Presentation Will Cover Include:

- Measures of calibration quality
- Relative Standard Error
- Relative Error
- Examples of problem calibrations
- Issues with the correlation coefficient
- Next steps for drinking water, wastewater and hazardous waste methods

Who Should Attend?

- Environmental Chemists
- Consulting and Engineering firms
- Environmental professionals engaged in projects using environmental chemistry data
- Regulatory Professionals looking for more knowledge regarding environmental analytical chemistry

A question and answer session will immediately follow the presentation. At the conclusion of each webinar, you will be asked for your feedback and opinions for future webinar topics to be developed by Eurofins TestAmerica.
