About This Webinar:

With a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), where they come from, and why we are concerned with them, we can dive into the next level of the discussion in our series on PFAS.

In the emerging contaminant environment, we have a number of rapidly evolving parameters to stay abreast of, and to incorporate into our assessments. Our webinar will discuss many of these, and will provide information to address a number of questions, including: how do the unique characteristics of these chemicals cause them to behave in the environment? What implications does this have on the development of our conceptual site models, site investigation strategies, and analytical approaches?

We will take a look at the state of the science and guidance as it relates to the sample collection procedures for PFAS. Understanding the progress we have made and where the data gaps remain is an important element impacting our approach to site investigations.

With the ubiquitous and persistent nature of these chemicals, we find that their presence is widespread, including in complex matrices. The typical complex matrix challenges, along with the unique chemistry of these chemicals, present significant challenges in acquiring representative data.

Divergent approaches to PFAS management at the state level have an enormous impact on site investigation and remediation decisions, and many states are grappling with challenging questions around the right analytical approach. Emerging technologies can assist with navigating some of the challenges we face today and in the near future.

This presentation is intended to provide the next level of discussion on more complex PFAS topics, following our PFAS Basics: An Introduction to the Chemistry, Sources, Regulation and Analysis webinar.

Topics the Presentation Will Cover:

  • Chemical properties and unique characteristics
  • Fate and transport
  • Current status of available methodology
  • Complex matrices, key analytical parameters
  • States approach to PFAS methods
  • Emerging Technologies

A question and answer session will immediately follow the presentation.
