Radiochemistry: Calculations and Data review

Tuesday, June 2, 2020 - 1:30 P.M. EDT

About This Webinar:

Most environmental professionals are well-versed in chemical analysis methods, instrumentation, and data review. However, when it comes to radiochemistry, many do not feel comfortable when reviewing or validating results. Even for those with a relatively sound background, there are some tips that may help expedite the process. Basic calculation equations, with specific application to several common radiochemistry methods, will be presented and described. In addition, quality control (e.g. tracers/carriers, LCS, MB, and DUP) and data evaluation (e.g. uncertainties and “detection limits”) parameters will be covered.

Topics which will be covered:

  • Basic calculation equations and examples of application.
  • What is a tracer/carrier, and how does it affect the sample result?
  • What QC should be expected with my results?
  • How do I evaluate QC results?
  • What is meant by “uncertainty”, and what is the difference between count and total uncertainty?
  • How can I have a negative result?
  • Fundamentals of detection decisions.

Who Should Attend?

  • Consulting and Engineering firms
  • Environmental professionals engaged in projects involving radiochemistry
  • Environmental/Regulatory professionals looking for more knowledge about evaluation of radiochemistry data

A question and answer session will immediately follow the presentation. At the conclusion of each webinar, you will be asked for your feedback and opinions for future webinar topics to be developed by Eurofins Environment Testing America (EETA).
